About heavenliner

a twisted little soul... people see me to be so delicious they sometimes want to eat me...

I am @keto_sa_kanto

Reason behind my not being too active in this blog is because I recently launched a new Instagram account. Since it is basically been a challenge on keeping in ketosis and determining what acceptable meal to eat is such a chore and undertaking, I decided to stylize, beautify and might as well take photos of these eats and post it on Instagram.

Let me then reveal that I am @keto_sa_kanto!

keto_sa_kanto if translated in english is “keto at the corner”

my recent instagram post!

What is so amazing about this new Instagram account is that it is slowly gaining popularity.  My 7-year old personal Instagram account that chronicles a cornucopia of stuffs, from travels, to food to friends and other highlights of my being a being, has only so far garnered 301 followers.  But my 1-week old @keto_sa_kanto account has already 125 followers as of this writing!

give me flowers! cauliflowers!!!

Follow me at @keto_sa_kanto and see what I have been eating!

A Needed Upgrade Of Filipino Independence Day

Today, June 12 my country is celebrating its Independence Day.  It’s the day when Philippines was freed and got liberated from centuries of Spanish colonial rule.  All forms of media here in my country today seem to rejoice and acclaim the freedom my country had 121 years ago.  It’s not bad.  But such commemoration seem so 121 years ago that it failed to level-up and be upgraded in a more current and present-day perspective about freedom.

My country’s celebration is still so stuck about the freedom from political and social control by the Spaniards.  Every Filipino shouts that it really feels good to be free and independent! But are we really free and independent in the true sense of the word today?

Spanish folks definitely has moved on and would not really care anymore about the goings-on in the Philippines today.  Yet still here we are, still so stuck with the thought of being freed and be independent from these folks from Europe.

Can we simply upgrade our thoughts on today’s celebration?  I would rather rally about true freedom and true independence today in the context of the present-day Filipino situations and circumstances.  I guess it would be better if Filipinos would rather contemplate on whether we are really free and independent socially, politically, morally and (wallet-wise) economically.

Yeah we have our own government but are we really free from shameless politicians and government officials? Yeah we have freedom of expression, but are we really free and be accepted by fellow Filipinos on who we are regardless of skin color, dialect, physical attributes and sexual orientation?  Yeah we are free from economic control by other countries but are we really independent money-wise that we no longer have to worry on where to source the dough needed for tomorrow’s food, clothes, medicine and shelter? Are we really free from traffic congestion, bad education and racial discrimination? Parang hinde! (Translation: It seems not)!

I don’t want to spoil today’s revelry.  Besides, bakasyon ngayon or it’s a non-working day today!  The last time I checked, Spain has no plans of recolonizing us.  And I guess we Pinoys still have a lot to work on regarding the true meaning of freedom and independence.

smile… it’s free!

Cloying Made Me Do An Exciting Keto Meal

Cloying is a word.  The arrogant in me thinks that only few Filipinos know this word.  If translated in Filipino it is “nauuta”.  It is the sickening feeling you have when you already consumed large doses of super rich eats (like belly fat meats, heavy cake icings or crazy butter-laced sweets).   It is so nauseating, you feel like your head is growing and it will just burst anytime!

At this stage of my being on ketogenic diet, I think I am in the cloying period.  I am starting to get so gutted out by the limited food selections that I have to make.  But the irony and dilemma is that I don’t want to be kicked out of ketosis.

Espousing on the basic thought of finding a silver lining in the midst of a difficulty, I decided to make my keto meal today a very exciting one!  I instead took time to stylize its plating and took tons of photos of it.

Let me start with my lunch today.  It’s my recipe but it’s Nengkoy who did the heavenly-delicious pickled shallots…

Grilled Rosemary-Marinated Pork with Spicy Mustard, Fresh Cucumber Slices and Nengkoy’s Pickled Shallots

My afternoon snack (and my final meal today) is even more exciting.  Thanks to Joe Duff, the Diet Chef for the Choco-Coffee Mud Cake recipe…

yum!

Choco-Coffee Mud Cake topped with Choco-Peanut Butter and Sweet Fresh Strawberries (Who doesn’t love the mix of strawberries & chocolate inside the mouth? huh!)

I totally enjoyed stylizing these! If not for my crazy cloying, I would have not done this.  Expect more of stylized keto meals in the future…

‘Yan ang mga nagagawa ng mga taong, NAUUTA!

Found LOVE at Blagden Alley

While trying to get ready with my next out-of-the-country adventure, I decided to transfer my recent travel photos to my external drive memory bank.  I noticed that there was one place in Washington that I failed to feature in my blog which I deliberately went to so as to experience, smell the area as well as get some awesome photos.

How can I forget the LOVE mural at the Instagram famous Blagden Alley?Or is it my subconscious telling me to temporarily miss it and only be aware again in time for the celebration of Pride Month this June?  This unique and eye catching piece of art is by Lisa Marie Thalhammer.  It is an LGBT-rainbow colored piece which communicates the simplest yet universal message of inclusivity and acceptance. Whatever it may be, let me then chronicle this little piece of experience that I had when I happen to see this meaningful and awesome street art found at Blagden Alley in Washington DC. At least through this street art, I can really say that I did indeed found LOVE in DC.  I hope next time its the one true thing!  Hahaha! And by the way, let me have this opportunity to greet everyone a “Happy Pride”!

Improved Happiness & Declined Sadness In The Middle of the Year

It is June 1 and we have exactly a month before our lives reached the second half of the year.  I just wish and hope that in the middle of this year, everyone has reached a certain level of improved happiness and declined sadness.

Philippines, is one of the countries (though with unreliable statistics) has the lowest rate concerning deep human sadness and depression as a chronic illness.  Reason behind it is maybe because Filipinos are generally happy and being sad and depressed is not an ailment but rather just a life’s short phase.

So for those who are actually suffering from the sadness woes, I have one song dedicated for you for the second half of the year.  What is so ironic about this pop-song is that it was shot in my happy country, the Philippines…

The song, video and its location seem so apt and fitting for it was shot in one of the happiest society in the planet while resonating past sadness and moving forward at a positive tone. The happy Pinoy crowd in the video seem to say and convey, “Everything’s gonna be okay”.

everything is gonna be okay…

This therefore is our song for the second half of the present year!   Stay happy everyone!

Heavy Keto Breakfast

After I arrived from my NYC and D.C. adventures, I have been quite successful in keeping myself under ketosis.  I am also no longer the worrier kind who needs to think and contemplate on what food I should next be consuming that is keto friendly.

This is especially true regarding my breakfast meals!  Aside from ordering breakfast meals from a nearby café in my office (with lots of keto-laced instructions and special requests), I have already settled and established the kind of keto breakfast that suits me.  I actually do and prepare my own keto-breakfast meal.

And for those who think that I am actually starving myself that is why I lose 39 pounds and is now on my ideal and preferred weight of 155 pounds, here is actually a set of photos I took of the type and kind of usual breakfast that I would usually consume.

2 burger patties, 5 cherry tomatoes, 4 slices of jack-cheddar cheese, 4 slices of rosemary keto bread and 1 huge grilled schublig sausage

2 burger patties with spicy mustard sauce, 4 tiny sugar-free pickled shallots,  4 slices of jack-cheddar cheese with 4 small slices of rosemary keto bread (the slab of keto cheesecake on the side was consumed as dessert for lunch)

2 burger patties, 3 broccoli-laced scrambled eggs, 4 small slices of rosemary keto bread and a mug of bulletproof coffee

One fault though is I can’t seem to count the carbs in these meal, but it nevertheless seem to maintain my preferred and ideal weight.  But for the sake of counting, the estimated number of carbs for these types of meal would be around 10 to 15 grams, which is actually not bad.

This breakfast no doubt fills me up and actually get me going until late lunch time!  And as the saying goes, “a bachelor’s life is like a fine breakfast, a flat lunch and a miserable breakfast!”  I now seldom have dinner for I try to keep up with mixing keto with that of an intermittent diet.

And for those who are starting keto, good luck and I hope you achieve your goal the soonest!

Eurovision’s Woman On The Stick Stunned Me

Despite not being European and is 100% Asian, this is my 3rd (not consecutive) year to be hooked by Eurovision.  First was being so engrossed and excited for the performance by Dani Im in 2016 and having to fall in love with the romantic winning song 2 years ago from Portugal.

This year was of a totally different reason.  I was so entranced and captivated by the performance and staging of the song entry from Australia.  Here’s why and let the video speaks for itself!

https://youtu.be/Eo5H62mCIsg&w=450

The staging I guess has never been done in the past Eurovision contests.  And it takes lungs and a diaphragm of steel to sing precise high operatic notes while standing, swinging and swaying on a 6 meter pole.  That woman slayed it!

Zero Gravity performed by Kate Miller-Heicke genuinely feels what people would consider a total enjoyment which for me is another Eurovision appeal.  Too sad this entry did not win (maybe because Europe is not ready and has not accepted yet that a Eurovision show will be held outside Europe) but Australia’s 2019 entry has definitely blown me away!  She kicks ass up there on the pole!

stunning!

zero gravity!

Flat Iron Soul and My Nutty Imagination

I purposely went to the Flat Iron when I revisited NYC.  Luckily, the hotel I stayed at after my Washington DC adventure was within the Union Square area which was a short walk to the Flat Iron.  While walking my way there, I promised and have set my loony mind that I will write an inspiring blog post about how I felt and how I experienced seeing the iconic building.

But upon reaching the area and seeing again the celebrated building after 4 years, I could not think of something awesome to say about how I was feeling.  Maybe it was because I was too overwhelmed that I start imagining things.  One thing that I stupidly expected while gazing into the beauty of the superstar structure was the sudden appearance of Spider-Man at the side of the building sprouting out his web and would sway out to a nearby building.

can’t believe i shot this!

emote…

love this shot!

Since I could not seem to shift my brain to such a silly thinking, I instead took photos of the Flat Iron and just simply promised myself that I will post my photos in black and white.  Now, I am doing that, I am expecting to somehow unleash the deep character of the building.

Besides, most people now take photos in color to show the beauty and aesthetics of their subject, but few would photograph their subject in black and white so as to show and feature how the soul and spirit of their subject would look like.   I hope I achieved that though these photos.

Now If I am Bong Revilla

Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is a high school graduate who never stepped into a college education whose level of charisma to the Filipino psyche is seem to be unknown and unheard of in the universe.  And because of such chutzpah in appeal he landed at the number 1 spot in the 2010 Philippine senatorial race.

Bong was however detained due to plunder charges amounting to 225 million pesos worth of kickbacks.  And in the still of the night and to every body’s surprise, he suddenly was acquitted but (and still surprisingly) was asked to return the money he supposed to have stolen.  The cunning guy however promised not to return it.

bong revilla… (photo captured from rappler.com)

Now comes 2019.  Bong inched his way on being a senator again.  The biggest popularity contest of the country made Bong a senator again landing (as of this writing) at the 10th spot.  Social media however has not been very good to Bong this time.  On my Facebook newsfeed alone, Bong seem to be the epitome of futility, idiocy and absurdity.  Netizens abhor him!

And those who voted for him, at this early point in time, are being blamed for the would-be-further-downfall of the poor Philippines.  They are branded as tanga, engot, tongo, bobo and di nag-iisip all of which if translated to English would mean dense and dim-witted.

I myself did not vote for that felon, I mean fellow.  But now if I am Bong and now that I am again a senator, I would do my very best to prove to all those who bashed me that I am worth the Filipino’s precious vote.  I will commission the brightest and the most dependable thinkers and shakers of the land to develop laws and policies for me that would benefit the majority. I would ensure that the safety and security of the minority and the oppressed are looked and cared upon.  I will also tap the best image and marketing consultants who would try to switch and modify my very tarnished image.  I will definitely use all my earned and plundered money to pay for those who are needing education, housing, medical care and all other basic needs of my fellow Filipinos.  And lastly, I will stop dancing the freakish dance step I did in my TV ad campaign.  I will prove to all criticizers and whackers who posted, liked and heart-ed in Facebook that they are all, with un-writable expletives, WRONG!

The problem is (in my contemplating tone)… I am not Bong Revilla.

i am not bong!
