Dami Im, X Factor Winner (Australia Got It Right)

Melinda Doolittle, David Archuleta and Jessica Sanchez of American Idol, Ella Henderson of X Factor (UK), Marco Germar of So You Think You Can Dance (U.S.) and most recently Morisette Amon of The Voice (Philippines) were the awesome talents I personally rooted for in their respective contest seasons in the past.  Click the name of these talents to read my posts about them for me to prove my point.  I can’t seem to remember when was the last time that my chosen contender won the contest he or she is competing on TV.

Strangely, despite their breathtaking performances, no one among these brilliant and gifted contestants did won in their respective talent contests.  They were beaten by other competitors as oddly voted by their respective country’s viewers.  Honestly, I’d rather observe a grass growing than listen or watch these so called winners perform.

lady gaga, katy perry and rihanna has yet to perform a number as amazing as this...

Anyway, it seems that it was not America, nor the UK, nor the Philippines talent contests that has the right sagacity and discernment for what a true talent really means.  Surprisingly, Australia does have the right vibe, groove and keenness on this matter.  I am saying this because just tonight, Australia has voted and honored Dami Im to be this year’s X Factor (Australia) WINNER!!!

I was slightly freaked out when the host announced who this year’s winner was.  I was clapping and cheering when Dami Im’s name was called.  All I can say is that endearing Australia got it right in the pocket…  Aussies know what exceptional talent is…

Here’s the spectacular and one-of-a-kind final number of Dami Im singing Purple Rain…

Congratulations Dami Im!!! Congratulations Australia!!!

Sa sobrang galak, parang gusto kong maligo ng may pakpak!

Dami Im and The Best Judges’ Ovation

damiimarmyI told myself that I would only write about Dami Im when she has been proclaimed the winner of X Factor Australia this year.  But with the amazing talent that Dami Im has just shown in the grand finals night tonight, I could not contain myself to not write about it anymore.

Being a self-proclaimed member of the Dami Army let this blog be a portal for dear Australia to know that one world class talent and superstar is in the person of Dami Im.  It would be a crime if she won’t win the X Factor Australia 2013.

So to dear Australia, I hope you vote for Dami Im!!!  Here’s her last performance that would surely seal the deal.  This video I suppose also contains the best judges’ ovation of any talent show in the world.

Winner or not, I will definitely miss her when the show ends…

Ameysing!

Donya Ina

donya ina, photo grabbed from the facebook page

Donya Ina is the newest anti-social media monster – at least here in the Philippines – whom ironically everybody loves.  According to her Facebook fan page which was conceived only 11 days ago, she has already generated 277,209 likes (including me).

Everybody loves Donya Ina because her opinions and advises about the ills of putting ridiculous posts on social media is in a form of satirical lampoon that leads to the highest form of laughter.  Her intelligent insults and offensive yet clever attacks about stupid acts people do on social media is something to be pondered about.

The way a potter would center the clay on his wheel, Donya Ina is sharp and straightforward yet funny about the painful truth. She would not hesitate in making you realize that you made a complete and utter ass of yourself.

Think about it, how much do you really gain from going on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram?  I’m pretty sure it’s not much.  But Donya Ina doesn’t say that we should stop using Facebook, Twitter or Instagram since these has become vital parts of our day to “connect” with other people.  However, she is the virtual life form who intellectualizes in a hilarious mode about how pathetic we look by trying to make ourselves cooler than we really are on the internet.

And what is so good about Donya Ina is that even though she is cantankerously grumpy she just wants to impart her astuteness and her maternal love to all her “anak” (children) in the internet world, because at the end of her every clever and analytical oration she would ask you to explain what you just did yet need not want an answer.  And would rather end up your conversation by saying… Labyu (love you).

Labyu tu Donya Ina…

Enlisted To The Dami Army

got this from dami's facebook page

got this from dami’s
facebook page

It’s official.  I am an enlisted personnel of the army, The Dami Army that is.  I have done this by pressing the Like icon button of her Facebook page and posting this article into this blog.

I followed the progress and features of this year’s X Factor Australia initially by being so mesmerized by the Jai Waetford audition, this year’s first audition feature.  But during that same first day of audition-features I was equally impressed by the most awkward looking lady singing Hero by Mariah Carey as her audition piece.

But I totally became a fan when she performed during the bootcamp portion of the competition.  There was a major mishap yet she rose to the occasion and performed a very beautiful number.

She actually was dropped from the competition because of this.  Yet fate I guess is truly on her side to become one popular artist because she was the one who got a surprise call when one of the finalists backed out from the show.  From then on, I continued looking after how Dami Im has performed in the contest.

Dami Im is the personification of “awkward” being “the new awesome”.  Her inelegance and gawkiness is so fresh and captivating.  What is so damn great about Dami is when she starts singing her un-polish-ness just disappears right before your eyes and transformation into a remarkable singing talent just comes into sight.  You would not believe that the awesome voice is actually coming out from such an awkward, down-to-earth and naive-looking lady.

As of this writing, she just passed through the week 4 of the finals singing Roar by Katy Perry…  Here is Dami Im singing a disco hit of the late ’70s, her live performance during the week 3 of the finals…

I guess her magnificent talent is coming from the pureness and sweetness of her heart.  If she gets eliminated in the program, I think it is because she is too good for X Factor.

Shayn, shayn, shayn Dami!

Morisette a Phillie and Dami an Aussie

The ladies that I am rooting for in their respective singing battles…  Dami Im of X Factor Austalia and Morisette Amon of The Voice Philippines.  Both are gems.  Their passions are incredible.  And are definitely show stoppers…

These girls are on fire!!!  Their performances every week are stunning!!!

Dami army is in full force!

The future is set for Morisette!

‘Pag ‘tong mga ‘to natalo pa naman…

Ping An Gave Me Goosebumps Surplus

Last year, there was a big mistake that the Chinese populace made.  They failed to choose Ping An as their last year’s winner of “The Voice China”.  They settled for a singer with mediocre vocal skills with above average panache.  It was like China settled for a grape juice when an expensive wine is very much available.

Watch and listen to China’s best singer and experience goosebumps surplus from Ping An.

Ganyan din boses ko aktwali.

Chinito By Yeng Constantino

ChinitoI don’t need to hear vocal fireworks to make me decide if a song is impressive or not.  That is why I like the fresh, vivacious and gorgeously basic beat of Chinito sang by the prolific Yeng Constantino.

I like Yeng because she seems to possess a preternatural gift for turning clichés into light yet deeply affecting songs.  In the song Chinito, Yeng exhibits both weariness and innocence in her voice yet manages to convey hope and despair in equal measure.

As for the music video, it’s very Asian! There’s a little of Korean, Japanese and Chinese in the video yet it is very Filipino. I can’t remember which Filipino music video has impressed me this much in the past.  I can say that this is one cute, impressive and intricately well thought type of concept for a music video.  Even the brilliant choreography is something to be praised about (love the cool snapping shoulders).

I wonder how non-Filipinos would receive this music and its video…

Kyut, kyut…

Rare Photos: A Mother’s Day Special

Unless done and taken by a well-known or critically acclaimed photographer, a photo is often appreciated on what it contains.  Unless you tell that it’s shot by a popular photographer, only few or even no one would ask who took your photo.  May it be a good angle of your face, a suddenly slim-looking body or a surprisingly sweet smile it’s always the person on the photo who receives raves and praises and never the photographer.

So to appreciate a work done by a nonentity in the field of photography, let me post two rare photos taken by her.  These photos are preciously exquisite because the one who took it is often the one photographed and never the one behind to click the camera.   These photos are so rare because she never shoots photos for she doesn’t know how to operate a camera.

These photos were taken from our recent trip abroad.  In our trip to Japan, I and my family were able to accumulate more than a thousand images and snapshots to chronicle our delightful adventures.  And out of these voluminous shots, only four photos were made by her.  I will post only two of these four shots since the “qualities” and “characters” of such photos are basically the same.  Again and let me reiterate that she is always the one photographed and never the one who photographs.

no. there's nothing wrong with your vision. actually, it's very artistic.

no. there’s nothing wrong with your vision.
it actually looks very artistic.

love this shot!

love this shot! “may nginig paktor!!!”

These rare photos were taken by Nengkoy.

These photos are stupendously extraordinary because it took us long arduous minutes to prolong our smile, held our breath and stay motionless on a pose.  We need to stay still and wait for Nengkoy to peep through the narrow viewer and at the same time find her index finger to the camera’s shutter to shoot these atypical pictures. The waiting to hear the clicking camera to shoot these motionless moments were so gruelingly prolonged, all of us in the photo kept quiet which made the room so silent it hurt my ear.

After four shots, we gave up, no one complained and quietly proceeded to call a waiter to order our dinner.  Actually after these shots were taken, I felt exhausted!

Happy Mother’s Day Nengkoy!!!

Kakaibang talento hatid sa inyo ni Nengkoy sa araw ng mga Maders…

Terrific Argo, Cheesy Actor, Brilliant Director

ben-affleck-argoWhen I learned that Ben Affleck the cheesy actor who once dated the cheesy singer/actress Jennifer Lopez and starred in two of the cheesiest movies of all time Gigli and Jersey Girl won the prestigious plum for Best Director award in almost all prestigious award giving bodies in America, I was shocked, stunned and stupefied.  I thought there must truly be something wrong in America nowadays!  I thought that America’s inhabitants must have gone foolishly cheesy.

My impertinent brain percolated that Ben Affleck being a film director is in no way count in the hierarchy of importance and skill from the pool of film geniuses who were also nominated this year.  Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Kathryn Bigelow definitely are of much greater creatures in the universe of film making.

argoBut when I saw the directorial job of Affleck in the movie Argo, I was more than shocked, stunned and stupefied.  There was nothing cheesy in it!

The action, the tension and the pacing were brilliantly built-up my fingernails hurt because of the nail-biting climax.  It was so wildly riveting and grippingly entertaining my butt aches because it held me at the edge of my seat.  The movie was absolutely brilliant!    Now I can say that Affleck remains to be a cheesy actor yet has turned out to be an exceptional director.

Mahusay pala ‘tong si Direk Aplek.

Himig Handog Song Finalists: Review (Final Part)

himig handog p-pop love songsAccording to news Himig Handog finals night will be held on February 24, 2013 at SM Mall of Asia Arena.  Also, all song finalists are now available in iTunes and Amazon while the album CD is now for sale in local record bars.  Anyway and without further ado, here’s the last batch of songs I reviewed so as to conclude my pre-Lenten Season penitensya.

Sana’y Magbalik words and music by Arman Villarta Alferez sang by Jovit Baldovino.  It’s a power ballad without much power.  Baldovino’s pipes were very good but the lyrics and arrangement were simply corny.    The song is too typical and too common.  There’s nothing unique about it.  It’s an archetypal kantang pang-ayuda in which anytime within the song an ago-go dancer will appear and start strutting his or her stuff. This for sure will be a big hit in dingy beerhouses of the land.

Scared To Death music and words by Domingo Rosco Jr. sang by KZ Tandingan.  I personally don’t like the point of the song.  It’s the song for the wimpy, the sissy and the wussy.  For me this song is nothing but a bland pop song.  I think KZ sings better when she performs live than in a recording.

Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa words and music by Jovinor Tan performed by Aiza Seguerra.  It’s a slow, sleepy, melancholic and melodramatic song bordering to painful boredom.  Nevertheless, Aiza’s hushed voice provides the song’s center of gravity.  She undeniably knows how to breathe her syllables over a rhythm.  Aiza sings with grace that makes it hard to keep your tears in their ducts.  She’s good.  But the message seems too gloomy.  It feels downright lonely.

Tamang Panahon words, music and performed by Wynn Andrada.  It’s fresh.  It’s simple and it’s easy to the ear.  The singer’s charming voice is perfect for the song’s message.  What I like most is that he sounds so sincere.  No drama no histrionics.  It’s cool yet it’s warm in a compelling way.  It’s light-hearted and reliably comforting.  The song can be applicable for the young and the young at heart.  This is the type of song that you wanted to be sung to you and also the song you want to sing to somebody you adore.  I think the song is even adjustable since it can easily be converted into a duet.

For me, the finest track and this year’s Himig Handog WINNER is Tamang Panahon

Tamang tama ang timpla ng kantang ‘to.
