Manny Pacquiao Is One Serious Disappointment

With the present psyche of the Philippine society being backed up by extreme and ambiguous religious belief, I have long accepted the fact that legalizing same sex marriage in this country would be so remote.  Thus, asking a famous boxer and part-time politician in a country where the majority of its populace are unfortunately not in the side of reason, if he agrees or disagrees on same sex marriage is nothing but pointless.  The system will not change in case he agrees with same sex-marriage anyway.

There has been a lot of people who opposes same sex marriage but these people were prudent and human enough not to compare LGBT people to being inferior to animals.  And though I disagree with them, I respected these people’s stance. But what broke my heart was Manny Pacquiao’s cruel statement of comparing the LGBT to being worse than animals.

the proof of my being a fan. the personalized shirt i would use during boxing events of manny. i don’t know what to do with it now… its eating some precious space in my cabinet…

Manny Pacquiao uttering this insensitive and idiotic idea made my respect for him simply fade away.  My being a fan simply vanished out into smithereens.  He is definitely awful and is one serious disappointment.  To those who think that what he said was okay, I’m sorry to all of you because Manny himself know that he was mistaken.  He would not apologize if he knows that he was not off beam.

Yeah, he has apologized but sorry the emotionally wounding damage has been done and though it may heal (hopefully soon), forever will remain one ugly scar.

And from the last time I checked prior to Mr. Pacquiao’s atrocious statement, my married LGBT friends who are living in a peaceful and productive lives has not in any way hurt or even negatively affected the boxing and political career of Mr. Pacquiao.  I don’t see the reason why he would disappointingly hurt them then?

Have a Haircut or Shoot Your Face

new year 2016

photo not mine…

Call it silly, call it insane.  But it has been my personal belief and tradition to have a haircut on the last day of the year.  I don’t know, but it brings me luck.

Like the Chinese, I believe that having a haircut on the first week of the New Year also cuts off your good luck that you’re supposed to receive throughout the year.  That is also why I have a haircut on the last day of the year.  But since I am thankfully not Chinese, I observe this belief every December 31.

While having my haircut, the TV set is turned on inside the salon.  News about the statistics of stray bullets hitting innocent kids all over the Philippines is rising according to the news flash.

The tradition of igniting firecrackers to welcome the New Year is supposed to be for fun and supposed to drive away the evil spirits according to some baseless belief.

But a pretty good amount of moronic people would rather fire their guns indiscriminately so as to create a loud sound without knowing the deadly consequence it may result to innocent people who would be hit by the stray bullet.  This thoughtless act is what is silly and what is insane!

While having my haircut, I then thought of the idea that these dim-witted people should instead aim their guns to their very own faces.  This would definitely reduce the number of evil spirits of this planet.

Have a safe and lucky New Year’s Eve celebration everyone!

The Powerful Words of Antoine Leiris

If usage of high tech armaments could not be the approach for terrorists to be hurt the most.  It would be the powerful words like that of Antoine Leiris that could totally destroy a terrorist’s being.

Antoine Leiris is a loving husband whose wife was killed by yet to be known terrorists last November 13, 2015 in the Bataclan massacre in Paris, France.

This message by Mr. Leiris can be one of the biggest insults a terrorists could ever receive!  Leiris’ mighty words were more than a slap on a terrorists’ face, a bullet shot in a terrorist’s heart, a kick on a terrorist’s butt and a bomb explosion unto a terrorist’s brain.

Here’s the complete text of Leiris’ writing as translated in English:

You will not have my hatred.

On Friday night you stole away a life of an exceptional being, the love of my life, the mother of my son, but you will not have my hatred.  I do not know who you are and I don’t want to know.  You are dead souls.

If the God for whom you kill so blindly made us in His image, each bullet in my wife’s body would have been a wound in His heart.

Therefore I will not give you the gift of hating you.  You have obviously sought it. But to reply to hatred with anger would be like giving in to the same ignorance that has made you what you are.  You want me to be afraid, to cast a mistrustful eye on my fellow citizens, to sacrifice my liberty for security.  Lost. Same player, same game.

I saw her this morning.  Finally, after nights and days of waiting.  She was just as beautiful as she was when she left on Friday evening, as beautiful as when I fell madly in love with her more than 12 years ago.

Of course I’m devastated with grief, I will give you that tiny victory, but this will be a short-term grief.  I know that she will join us every day and that we will find each other again in a paradise of free souls which you will never have access to.

We are only two, my son and I, but we are more powerful than all the armies of the world.  In any case, I have no more time to waste on you.  I need to get back to Melvil who is waking up from his afternoon nap.  He’s just 17 months old; he’ll eat his snack like every day, and then we’re going to play like we do every day; and every day of his life this little boy will insult you with his happiness and freedom.  Because you won’t have his hatred either. — Antoine Leiris

Epic Fail: Bureau of Customs On Balikbayan Boxes

balikbayan boxIn the past days, the undeniable posts from a lot of my Facebook friends is about their fury towards the Bureau of Customs’ implementation of the rule regarding random inspection of Balikbayan Boxes being sent by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

With the abundant and amplified posts of people on social media about their resentment regarding this ruling, it can simply be deduced that this new ruling is one hell of an epic fail of a move from BOC.    This failure is so imminent and forthcoming because people from Bureau of Customs are simply not the type of people to be trusted.  They actually have quite built such a despicable reputation for themselves.  Because of the protracted history of corruption, pilferage and embezzlement in the bureau of customs, people working in this bureau are simply the last souls in the planet to be trusted by the overseas Filipino workers.

What is so utterly dense about this decision is that the bureau’s main aim is to catch big illegal smugglers out from the regular people’s parcels and packages.  When in fact, big time smugglers can actually enter their illegal goods in mall-sized amounts via cargo ships.  BOC people can’t seem to see the freaking cargo ship in front of them – containing fake rice, household trash from Canada, high-end luxury cars from Europe, oil and fuel from Middle East and deadly drugs from China — yet they choose to look into the small and meager balikabayan boxes.

A conceited Philippine senator even agreed on opening the boxes but suggested that it would have to be under the watch of a CCTV camera.  Such proposal though tolerable is still not acceptable because, this means that BOC people would still have to open a private property.  The best solution I suppose is for BOC to purchase high tech x-ray and scanning machines similar to the ones found in the airports so that no boxes would have to be opened up.balikbayan boxes 2

And if they find expensive shoes or pricey designer bags in these boxes, I suppose these items need not be charged with irrational taxes.  Bureau of Customs must realize how much sweat and blood has already been shed by the desolate OFW so as to bring joy to their loved ones back home.  BOC people should also realize that OFW sending or bringing these high ticket items is the OFWs few possible channels in compensating for the time that was lost on being together with his or her family.  I know this because I myself grew up receiving these types of items from my father who worked his butts off in the Middle East during the ‘70s and 80’s.

It cannot also be denied that a lot of Facebook posts suggests that OFWs should temporarily cease sending their hard-earned goods to their loved ones until the Bureau of Customs has fixed this unwise and ridiculous ruling.  This definitely would create hatred and animosity not only by the OFWs but also their loved ones here in the country not only towards BOC but throughout the present administration itself.

Two words of advice to BOC: Fix It!

Buwaya lang ang peg!

Musings From Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj Prophecy

“Congratulations” and “Good For You” are two of my main reactions for Filipinos who migrated and has rather settled to live their colorful lives out of the Philippines.  These are my knee jerk reactions for Filipino migrants when I saw the viral video about a popular Indian prophet who prophesized that Philippines is due to suffer further from wrath and fury out of the hopping madness by God.

sadhu sundar selvaraj

sadhu sundar selvaraj

According to Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj, the Philippines – if it will not return its correct faith in God – will further suffer (after the floods in mainland Mindanao, islands of Samar and Leyte as well as the deadly earthquake that jolted Cebu and Bohol) through the spread of deadly diseases that will originate one from Pangasinan and the other from Cebu.  He relayed that these diseases will spread all over the world, other nations will abhor the Philippines.

Those who moved out of the country, I suppose are truly blessed for they will be spared from God’s upcoming deadly and disastrous rage and fury towards the Philippines.  While I and the rest of those who settled to dwell or those who does not have the choice but to stay will have to focus praying reminiscent of extracting blood from stones so that my beloved country will be bailed out from such heavenly fury and divine ferocity.

Living for more than 40 years in the Philippines and dealing daily with the Pinoy life, I can just but agree with God that my nation is no longer the innocent, harmless and naïve populace.  Except for a few who categorically chose to live a clean, honorable and honest lives the culture of Pinoys has gone deceitful, cunning, fraudulent and faithless.

Simple daily activities like riding a bus, walking along a narrow street, dining in a food chain, texting in public or simply standing in a corner of a free open space, you would encounter heinous and dreadful circumstances beyond a non-Filipino’s imagination wickedly carried out by a co-Filipino.

Simple case in point…  If you drop, left or put something in a public place even for a couple of minutes may it be of value or not, you will not be surprised that when you search it back, it would simply be gone.  It’s automatic that somebody for sure has taken it!!!  People would say that they did not stole it but instead rationalize that they found it and was God’s answer to their pious prayers.  It’s not stealing but a “hulog ng langit” (blessing of heaven)!  Regrettably, Filipinos has developed a psyche of distorted excuse and raison d’être.

Also, we have developed the life’s standards that it’s better to be the deceiver than the deceived (the receiver than the giver or the help-ee than the helper).  If you fell into the former category, you are considered clever and wise.  But if you’re the latter, you’re simply labeled as “tanga” (dull, dim and stupid).

This twisted cultural belief and distorted sanctimonious rationalization which Filipinos has developed as part of its unexplainable norm can truly make the Most Powerful feel “bwisit” (pissed off) towards us.  It seems that this can only be erased through some bad-ass mystical cleansing, thus, the ferocious wrath by The Almighty.

A lot believes that prayers, prayers and lots of prayers are the answer to prevent God’s fury from coming.  I guess prayers are good but what we need most is the inner change.  I just wish this in the coming days… in the coming days…

No Need My Dear HK Legislators

a photo from discoverhongkong.com

a photo from discoverhongkong.com

Legislators in Hong Kong need not put into law their impeding plans of withdrawing the visa-free access of Filipinos in their territory.  It is because I no longer intend to go there anymore.  Yeah, I have been to Hong Kong a couple of times but there seem to be no reason anymore to visit again.

With all the news of HK government being so “asar” (pissed off) with the Manila City government, the Manila police and the Philippine government as a whole due to the unfortunate Luneta shooting incident that killed a number of HK citizens, no Filipino in his right set of mind would want to tour HK.  People would have to slip me in a straight jacket, place me in a box and send me through door to door courier if you would want me to go there.

Last year, I actually declined an offer to go there for free, as in an all expenses-paid travel.  From airline ticket, to land transfers, to food, to hotel accommodation.  I chose to stay in lively Manila, be busy with my job and do something more productive instead.

I do not have the eloquence of an angel when I speak so let me be blunt when I say that Hong Kong lawmakers can keep their Pinoy-visa-free access to themselves.  To prove this further, even my nieces who will be gifted by my elder sister next year with a trip abroad after they have finished their respective college degrees will instead go to Singapore.  They initially planned to go to HK, but upon learning those distressing news, they themselves decided that it would no longer be smart for a Pinoy to go there.  This is apart from the fact that my elder sister no longer wants to spend her hard earned money to any business in HK.  That’s three less tourists for you next year…

People reading this may suppose that I am insensitive to the more than 160,000 Filipino workers in HK.  I guess, they need not worry because if their respective employers truly need them because of their efficiency, diligence, politeness and reliability at work (the typical Overseas Filipino Workers’ traits), these HK employers themselves would of course process and shoulder the expense in the application for Filipino workers’ visa. Besides, initial news points out that the visa-free access withdrawal plans would only be applied to Filipino visitors, meaning tourists (like me), not overseas Filipino workers.  Because if they would include our laudable overseas workers, their houses would turn filthy, their kids would have difficulty learning English and Disney in HK won’t be as lively and fun as it is.

I just hope that lawmakers in the Philippines would not reciprocate by requiring Hong Kong citizens to secure their respective visas prior to enter the Philippines.  That would be such an undiplomatic and childish move.  HK legislators can sulk in hatred and abhorrence all they want but we should let HK citizens enter and be made to realize that Philippines is actually a safe haven for them.  They need to understand that the people of the Philippines have not done wrong to the people of Hong Kong.  What they need is a paradigm shift and that the Luneta incident is a mishap that even Filipinos themselves would not want to happen.

Finally, I’d rather process a visa application going to other more interesting state or country than spend the same precious time, effort and money applying for a visa going to irate and fuming Hong Kong.

Inyo na. As in.

Unworthy YT Music Awards

ytmusicawards2013It has been quite disappointing to know that the line-up of nominees in this year’s YouTube Music Awards (YTMA) Artist Of The Year were nothing but a product of strong marketing campaign.

The award says “artist” but the line-up of nominees seem out of place.  Yeah, they had the greatest number of views and likes in their respective videos but that does not mean they are the greatest artist this year.  I would be more convinced if any one of these nominees were lined up in the category of YTMA Popular Celebrity of the Year.

For me, YouTube’s coming up with bunch of awards to give out has been a total mess.  It’s nothing but a cringe-worthy crusade.  YouTube is YouTube.  It’s a totally huge, massive and colossal virtual world of videos representing every walks of human life.  With the enormous amount of artistic videos uploaded daily around the planet, you can’t just select and trim down in just ten so-called worthy celebrities who are products of western pop marketing campaigns.

One pop group or a celebrity cannot in any way represent the great impetus of YouTube.   YouTube coming up with these nasty awards is only making itself cheap and annoying.  YouTube should realize the social impact that they’ve done and continuously doing and not just a mere portal of pop music and their celebrities.

World War Z and the Philippine Zombie

pile of zombies going up the israeli wall in the movie World War Z

pile of zombies going up the israeli wall in the movie World War Z

Zombies are not counted in traditional Filipino mythical world as well as folklores of the ghoulish variant.  There is actually no Filipino-Tagalog translation for a Zombie.  And to further prove this point, the old Filipino letters actually does not have a letter Z in it.  Thus, zombies are non-existent in the Philippines and that it is a product of a western mind.

With this underpinning thought, I am confident that in the zombie-movie World War Z, the bug did not originate from the Philippines.  But the movie made me anxious and curious if zombies would be able to reach the Philippines.  Like Japan and Indonesia, the Philippines is an archipelago.  Thus, to reach and cross its borders you can only enter either via air or water never by land.

I am not a fan of zombie-genre-movies but World War Z ranks right up in my list in terms of making me stunned and jolt right on my seat.  Though the movie was intensely entertaining, it is regrettable that it did not illustrate if the Philippines was infected or was in the clear.  But with the depiction that the infection will alter a person’s appearance and behavior in just 12 seconds, I presupposed that the Philippines was indeed spared.  Why? A zombie characterized to have poor dexterity can’t fly an airplane or sail a boat.  And with an extreme aggressiveness and severe hunger for human flesh all passengers of an airplane or a ship would easily be infected before its engine can even start.

When Brad Pitt decided to go to Israel being one of the countries that have kept the zombies at bay because of their construction of a wall, I was shouting “Go to the Philippines!!!  You will be safe here!!!” inside the cinema hoping he would hear me.  And when the zombies were able to go over the wall of Israel and infected its citizens depicted in a visually astonishing style, I was again shouting inside the movie house “I told you Brad!!!  I told you!!!”

a usual occurrence in zombie-filled manila

a usual occurrence in zombie-filled manila

Maybe the reason why there is no zombie here is because we Pinoys already have so much to deal with.  Like having the same equation in different dimension, the zombies of the Philippines are in the form of car thefts, kidnappers, pickpockets, armed robbers and atrocious taxi drivers.  These are the on-going catastrophe of Philippine society.

I no doubt enjoyed the compelling World War Z movie and I just hope, similar to what Brad Pitt and those scientist/doctors did in the movie, we finally discover a cure or antidote that would put an end to the pandemic Philippine zombies.

Dilemma On Quaresma: The Modernized Pabasa

pabasawithmicrophoneIts Maundy Thursday today and the traditional Pabasa Ng Pasyon (Chanting of Christ’s Passion) literally kept me up all night.  Not because I joined the bandwagon this year of chanting in monotonous tone the narratives of the life, passion, death and resurrection of Lord Jesus but because a community right beside the building where I live chose to chant the Pasyon in loud and proud manner utilizing a microphone with humongous sets of speakers.

I know Pabasa Ng Pasyon is considered to be a unique Filipino communal tradition which would run during the whole span of the Holy Week.  But do devotees today really have to use a microphone to fulfill this religious meditation? What about those who opted to follow the tradition of shutting their mouth and ears to find peace and serenity during the observance of the Holy Week?

I am not saying that Pabasa should be stopped in all corners of the land what I am trying to point out is that this tradition should be kept and observed in the traditional manner, that is, speaker-less, microphone-less with merely raw, genuine and unprocessed chants.

In my personal opinion, using microphones and speakers in Pabasa denotes artless, insincere and contrived expression and profession of the Catholic faith.  It no longer sounds the way I used to hear it – exotic, bizarre and mysterious.  For me, using these modern technological equipments turns the “modernized” Pabasa into nothing but a thoughtless, vain and immodest show.

It’s the Holy Week no one should be playing or making loud music for Pete’s sake!  I just hope the ear fatiguing sound from the nearby colony of human beings would stop while I write this post otherwise this week is turning out to be one unholy week.

Incorrigible Donald Trump Jr.

“Hopeless Idiot” that is what I unconsciously uttered when I read in the news about the cruel tweet posted by the son of the estate mogul Donald Trump.

trumpjrtweet

So for Mr. Trump Jr. the 277-million-dollar ship that can’t properly navigate is more important (that’s why it got lost and eventually stuck on the reef) than the Tubbataha.  He doesn’t want the ship dismantled.  It is so sad to know that this son of a magnate who would soon be one of the forerunners and major stirrer of a conglomerate has gone numb and insensible about nature.

I totally agree with FranceFluxing when she tweeted this.

francefluxingtweet

Yeah, the Trump Organization run by Donald Trump and his family can develop hotels, resorts, golf courses and residential towers in various parts of the globe.  But one thing is for sure their organization cannot construct a natural wonder like the wondrous Tubbataha Reef.

If Donald Trump Jr. and his supporters will try to challenge or get critical about this post then my middle finger is ready to rise…
