Cutest & Bravest

At a very young age, I knew how it was to be very sick.  I was too sickly, I could be considered a regular “customer” of hospitals.  If hospitals and clinics would have a promo like Starbucks – earn enough points to get your free coffee on your next visit – I would be one who can easily earn the required hospital points to avail of a free confinement in the next visit.

i remember this! my elder sister took this photo and i was just discharged from (as usual) the hospital.  too weak to smile! hahaha!

During my childhood, nurses and doctors are no longer surprised to find and see my name on their medical charts.  Nengkoy (my mother) in fact have loads of stories and anecdotes about her experiences in hospitals and during medical emergency situations that involves none other than, me.

I know how it is to be very very sick.  That is why every time I see a young child at odds and is battling an illness and medical circumstance, my heart would just melt.

I am in tears when I encounter this trending news about John Oliver Zippay, the young kid who battled and won a war against cancer.

The video washed my eyes!  I am super happy for J.O. (his nickname).  What is good to know is that aside from being sickly at a young age, both I and J.O. were tagged “STRONG” by our respective fathers.  The hashtag in J.O.’s GoFundMe page created by his dad was #JOStrong.  My Tatay (Dad) on the other hand named me after Neil Armstrong.

got this from cnn photos!  super happy for this boy! so brave, so brave!

There’s one big difference though between me and J.O.  Aside from his infectious charm, the difference is that J.O. is the cutest and the bravest!

Happy 2020 Everyone!

Let me take this opportunity to thank all the people who has been a part and made the pages of my year 2019 complete.  And to all those who I am to meet next year, please take it easy on me.

Happy New Year! — from me and Nengkoy (my mom)

I wish for more love, happiness and success to every one of us.  Remember to believe in yourself, be an inspiration to others and have an awesome New Year every one!

Remarkable Fairmont Singapore

While renewing my membership with Accor for another year, I remember that I have yet to blog about the last hotel I stayed at using my Accor membership.  Let me then feature Fairmont Singapore!

Located at the upscale Raffles City complex, Fairmont is so luxuriously impressive.  And like what its website states, “there is no better way to enjoy Singapore than to stay in the heart of it all”.  Location, service and comfort are the three major considerations on my recent trip to Singapore.  Reason behind it is because I am with Nengkoy who at her old age (yet still travels) requires impeccable attention and assistance.

Everything went so well during our stay in Fairmont.  We arrived early in the hotel yet the check-in was quick, friendly and efficient.  The room was really fantastic and its amenities were remarkable!  I particularly love the Le Labo Rose 31 perfume body lotion as well as the soothing bar soap.  The bed was so soft and comfy I actually miss it now.  And by the way, the Nespresso machine inside the room was really a big plus!

The room is huge yet stylish and classy!  We enjoyed and loved everything in Fairmont.  And during our short Singapore stint, we would actually want to go back early to our appointed room after some short sight-seeing adventures of the city so that we can further enjoy the comforts of Fairmont.

Fairmont Singapore is indeed highly recommended!  I love it!

Nengkoy: The Unstoppable Traveler

I am old.  But when I grow very old I wanna be just like Nengkoy.  Now at her eighties, Nengkoy can still afford to travel the globe.  Though there are quite a number of things now to consider when she goes out of the country – load of medicines to bring, permit not to undergo x-ray due to her pacemaker, wheelchair access, facilities and services that needs to be coordinated and a lot lot more – Nengkoy still is unstoppable.

Let me post the latest photo of Nengkoy which was taken from her very recent Singapore weekend adventure.

Ibis Styles Singapore on Macpherson

Me and my sisters had a surprise long-weekend getaway for Nengkoy (my mother).  We went to Passion Made Possible, Singapore!  We unfortunately had a red-eye flight that requires us to arrive in Singapore around 1:00 AM.  Considering that it would only be for a short period of time until we check-in in our chosen hotel and me being an Accor member, we prompted to have our first night in an Accor budget hotel.  We decided to head to Ibis Styles Singapore on Macpherson.

usual ibis-style kind of a hotel hallway…

simple yet functional…

super nice… super clean… super comfy…

Our decision to stay at Ibis Styles at Macpherson area of the City State was a surprisingly pleasant experience.  Present Macpherson is like the city center of Singapore ten or fifteen years ago.  With the fast paced development in this part of the planet, I will not be surprised that after another 10 years, the seem-to-be suburb Macpherson section will be like what the city center now.

comfort indeed!

love the orange color…

our room number 2…

This Ibis Hotel branch in this part of commuter-belt-Singapore was exuding with fineness.  The room was surprisingly big for an Ibis-type of a room.  Its impeccable cleanliness, unsullied orderliness and warm service merits above average distinction.  Moreover, considering the bargain price of their rooms, the complimentary buffet breakfast is more than what I and Nengkoy would consider simple.

I have always been a fan of the Ibis hotels’ modern, minimalist and contemporary colors and designs!  Ibis Styles Singapore on Macpherson made my fondness towards Ibis to simply linger on.

Simple pero nays!

Happy Mothers Day 2019

The most challenging hurdle in the world, I guess, is to raise me as a child and that unthinkable task has been assigned by the heavens to this lady.  She’s a lot of things to a lot of people. And she need not be in cape nor costume to be my hero. She is simply the incomparable!  Nengkoy who else?

Happy Mothers Day!

Nengkoy’s 82nd Birthday

Last weekend, I and my whole family celebrated Nengkoy’s 82nd birthday.  And every year, we make sure that Nengkoy’s birthday is celebrated in a grand way.  The whole family would spend overnight in an opulent resort out of town.

But this year was a little different.  Though it was still an overnight out of town, it is now held not in a luxury resort but at a more private place.  The venue this year was a little different and a lot farther from Manila.  It was a 5-hour travel by land.  We held it at the super huge and lavish house of Thatcher and Alexis, my niece and nephew-in-law or the two of the plenty grandchildren of Nengkoy.

And like every other year that was, this year’s celebration was a blast.  And an addition to the already huge family has joined us, our little boy Arziolo joined the fun filled celebration.

Nengkoy gave us a scare last year when she suffered from some numerous serious ailments.  We hope that this year would be a very good year for Nengkoy health wise.  The whole family only has two wishes for her.  That would be good health and continuous luck in her mahjong exploits.

this out of town celebration will not be complete if there would be no mahjoong session.  playing mahjong with my elder sister, my niece erika and the owner of the house thatcher

Choosing a Bowl of Clam Chowder

My family is so nutty like a fruitcake!  It has been weeks that some members of my family were contemplating on revisiting and spending the weekend at Okada Manila, the iconic oceanfront integrated resort here in Manila.  We then decided to visit one Saturday.

And while everyone was fixing and getting ready to do the “pasyal” (translation: stroll) everyone were suggesting what to do and where to eat while inside plush and lavish Okada.  That is until I raised the idea of dropping the plan of going to Okada and we should instead go to S&R where unhealthy American food are available.  My nephew Luis reinforced my idea when he expressed that he is craving for some delicious Clam Chowder which Nengkoy also loved and never misses to order every time we dine there.

While we were in the car heading to sophisticated Okada, everybody then decided to do a detour.  We agreed to replace the long-ago-planned weekend destination, that is, from the grand and luxurious Okada Manila to the huddle-filled and unsophisticated food court of S&R membership-shopping store!

yummy clam chowder and my greasy pizza!

nengkoy waiting for her creamy and savory clam chowder at the food court

I ended up enjoying the Clam Chowder, a big chunk of pizza and two pieces of crispy fried chicken! And since we are there, I decided to buy a tray of huge muffins and a big bag of toilet paper rolls.  While munching on the greasy pizza, I contemplated that my crazy family’s detour to S&R food court was in agreement to Leonardo Da Vinci’s notion that “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

2018 Reflection and 2019 Aspiration

We have now reached the time of the year when we start to reflect on the year that was.  The compilations are starting to come out for the best songs, movies, Facebook and Instagram posts, fashion and all other bests for the year.

It is also the time for reflection on a personal level: new people we met, new food we have tasted, amazing new sites we’ve visited, new skills we’ve learned, virtues we’ve acquired or maintained as well as the surprising circumstances we have encountered along the way.  It is also the time when we reflect how we’ve been as a human being and what we want to be in the next year.

As for me, I guess all I can do is be the best person that I can be to those who need me.  And to those who don’t need me, just wait and see because sometime next year you would realize that you do crave and long for me.  Hahaha!  I may not have a new set of resolutions but I will definitely do my very best to stay out of the treacherous waters that would be swirling around next year.

It is the end of the year and it feels like a lot of people are tired and need a break.  I hope that next year would be more peaceful, meaningful and fruitful for everybody.  Let us hope for the best!

happy new yeaar from sweet nengkoy!

happy new year! welcome 2019!

Happy New Year and lots of love from me and my mother, Nengkoy!

Christmas 2018 at Nengkoy’s

photo taken by rachelle (nengkoy’s executive housekeeper)

Like any other Christian family, my family every year is at the heart of Christmas.  2018 Christmas celebration is no different from the yearly revelry that occurs at Nengkoy’s abode.  This year though is a little different because there is a little additional member of the family, my 8-month old grandnephew Arziolo.

And as usual, I am the designated person to take photos of the party.  There were so much photos I took last Christmas Eve that I was able to create a short video out from it.  Enjoy watching…

From Nengkoy and my whole family, let me again greet everybody a very Merry Christmas!  And since this post covers a YouTube video, let me express how vloggers would invite viewers by saying: “Hi guys!!! Don’t forget to press the like button and subscribe in this channel!”  Hahaha!

Mag bayral sana…
