A Halloween 2010 Message

Before putting on your chosen mask or costume to celebrate Halloween, try to contemplate first if you have been wearing an internal one all the while.  Are you the type whose been wearing a mask or costume of insulation against rejection and sorrow?  Are you pretending to be someone you are not because you worry if people will like you for YOU?

If you are this person, then let me remind you that you need not observe tonight’s celebration since you are already a walking Halloween!  Let me advise you that instead of adding another freaking mask or costume to an already existing one, I suppose the best way for you to celebrate a great Halloween is to take off this internal mask or costume and start being simply just yourself.  Not just this Halloween but every day for the rest of your life.

Be your own melodic song! To have faith in yourself, to convey your own individuality, to pursue your own roaring style, to relax and loosen up, to be sincere and not measure yourself by the views and estimation of others – these are the steps to removing your mask or costume.  For sure, you will have a happier and more fulfilling journey through life.  Happy Halloween everyone!!!

Remembering the Queen of Hearts

I was in my 5th grade.  Seated in the middle of the lecture room with my classmates, Ms. Balagot was not in her usual self.  Our grumpy spinster teacher was not scary, hostile and sinister that lovely morning.  Rather, teacher Balagot was smiling and seems excited.  After lecturing a couple of topics, she suddenly pulled out a big and heavy hardbound copy of a new book she personally brought from her home to school. The manuscript, covered in plastic was not the usual reference textbook but a brand new copy of a book featuring a lot of lustrous photos that she impatiently showed us.

The pictures she showed to our class featured a young beautiful bride dressed in what seem to be the longest bridal train trailing behind her gown.  She got a sparkling tiara on top of her head and was beaming with the most beautiful smile.  Teacher Balagot explained that the gorgeous lady in the pictures got married to an eloquent prince and will be the future queen.  Teacher Balagot showed every picture in the book stating the names of every royalty persons in each picture.  She pointed her finger to an old lady explaining that she is the present queen and is the mother of the groom.  She presented the pictures of the newly-wed couple riding behind their wedding wagon waving back to thousands of spectators in the street awaiting their carriage to pass by them.  Teacher Balagot after closing the glossy book further explained that the bride was the first common Englishwoman for 300 years to marry an heir to the throne.

This is my first vivid memory of Diana Spencer the Princess of Wales and people’s Queen of Hearts who died exactly thirteen years ago.

Si Ms. Balagot kaya, nasaan na?

What If Ninoy…

With today’s commemoration on the death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino Sr., the incredible modern day Filipino hero, have you ever wondered what if Ninoy did not decide to come home to the Philippines exactly 27 years ago?  What if Ninoy chose to stay in the US, enjoy the Boston hospitality and settle for a more peaceful life with his family on American soil?

These are some of my freaking thoughts…

  1. The image of Ferdinand Marcos is on the Philippine 500 peso bill;
  2. MIA (Manila International Airport) would have not been changed to NAIA but will remain MIA but with a different denotation, i.e. Marcos International Airport
  3. Cory would have not been the 11th president of the republic but Imelda
  4. Pido Dida movie starring the late Rene Requiestas and Kris would have not been a blockbuster
  5. Noynoy would have not been the 15th president of the republic but Bong Bong
  6. Imee would be the partner host of Boy Abunda in The Buzz and the she is the present host of Pilipinas Win Na Win
  7. Cager James Yap would not be in a whirlwind situation right now and should be enjoying a life with his son whose mother is not the self-absorbed Kris
  8. Imee would have been the Queen of All Media but not the tactless, conniving and calculative kind who would do anything just to stay in the spotlight
  9. The great, crucial and momentous People Power is a non-existent type of revolution in this country
  10. I would have not been writing this blog

Dance with my Father

Today is Father’s Day and I sorely miss my Tatay!   This song (by Luther Vandross) says everything that I’m feeling.   Here’s the moving lyrics…

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around ’til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He’d make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
‘Cause I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I’d listen outside her door
And I’d hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I’m praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don’t do it usually
But dear Lord she’s dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

Lab yu Tatay Joe!

Earth Hour Conyo

On March 27, I’m gonna make sali and support the Earth Hour.  It’s my third beses na to participate.  I’m gonna patay my ilaw and make tigil my aircon and TV.  During the one ora from 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M., I’m just gonna tayo at my veranda and check on the dark paligid of the metropolis.  Since it’s gonna be so init, I will just paypay na lang to prevent my delicious body from any pawis and enjoy the dark view as if like parang merong something out there.

I’m so asar to those who will not join.  They’re so like nakakainis!  I wanna make kulam them already.  Why ba they won’t sali on the first place?  It’s like parang short moment lang naman!  Then when it’s on the balita already, they’ll gonna be so ingget and make sisi other people for not telling them about the event.  They’re so labo talaga.

Earth Hour is so galing because 120 countries of the planet I believe are gonna make sali.  It’s parang having unity among nations talaga!  An hour of making hintay will make tipid na nga a lot of kuryente for the future generation to use and make laban the fight against climate change.

Texting on Valentines

Time check, it’s exactly 7:58 in the evening here in Manila a few hours from now those loveless single people can breathe easily and comfortably.

Every special day like Valentines, a lot of businesses flourish.   All sorts of gimickry have been made on how to celebrate special days like Valentines.  Some would go mushy, sappy and cheesy, others go quirky, frizzy and kinky and some would even go outdoor-sy or gory! (lol).  I just wonder if telecommunications companies (in the business of text messaging) are also at its peak during Valentines as compared to Christmas and New Year’s Day since not all seem to celebrate the red heart’s day.

Let me be blunt and sarcastic but for me sending a Valentine text greeting to a single loveless person would be like serving a Muslim with pork meat on his or her table.  Nevertheless, these sent text messages can actually be a gauge and basis if the texter is a sensitive friend or an unsophisticated moron.  For me sending a Valentines text message to a single loveless person is one of the most sarcastic remarks a person can do.

Therefore, let me only greet those lovebirds a great Valentines night!  Just a note of caution, bear in mind what philosopher Plato said, “Love is a grave mental disease”.  Similarly, take heed from what Melissa (the Pinoy Big Brother latest edition Big Winner)  says when asked, “What is love?”  She answered, “Love is like a bubble gum, kapag dumikit nakaka-buang.”

What are my plans for the rest of the evening?!  Well, it’s my own business anyways so, shoo!

O sha! Maglalaba na ko.

Today is the Last Day of the Year

Today is the last day of the year.  Hours from now everyone is required to be happy.  Mind you, nothing is as vein-popping stressful as being required to be happy.  That is why the rate of domestic violence, suicide and depression escalates during the holidays.  If you think that those dumbass people who were burned or blasted by fire crackers were accidental, think again, for they may be suffering from depression.  Thus, lighting a fire cracker is actually their way of unconsciously yet ineffective way of finishing off their bleak atoricious feeling during the holidays.

Today is the last day of the year.  I promised myself to clean and clear all the clutter in my house.  One of the scraps is a leftover Christmas wrapping paper.  Wrapping paper destroys forests.  Just imagine the vast quantities of paper required to wrap all Christmas gifts around the world.  It could be as vast as the forests in the Philippines – that is if there are still forest left in this country.  I decided to keep the leftover wrapping paper and use it next year.

Today is the last day of the year.  At exactly twelve midnight I will have the opportunity to practice my annual primal scream therapy.  This is the only time that I can scream my lungs out without disturbing the neighbors.  Screaming is good!  My screech and howl during this time of the year can truly scare away all the crappy bad spirits lurking around my demented nonsensical world.

Today is the last day of the year.  I wont be surprised if Nengkoy and Aunt Iya will be wearing their annual polka dotted “dusters” for goodluck when they welcome the exciting new year…

Hapi Nyu Yir ebri wan!!!

Malcolm X: An Eid’l Fitr Special

malcolmxMalcolm X is a black Muslim American guy who hated white American folks.  He regarded the white people as evil.  Prior to his international travels, he advocated that the ‘black race is the superior race’ and that ‘history can prove that white man is a devil’.  He even demanded for a racial segregation, in which he proposed that the African American population be exclusively allowed live in the southern part of the US until they could all return to Africa.

But when he got the opportunity to journey to the ancient holy land of Mecca, he noticed that Muslim pilgrims are actually diverse in physical form.  He learned that people of Islam religion can look white, black, yellow, red or brown.  He experienced that Muslims came from various nations participating in the same holy ritual.  They can be with blonde hair and blue eyes, brown skined with flat nose, tall with curly hair , vertically challeged with chinky eyes, etc.

His experience in Mecca basically changed his general perception about people of the world.  This also changed his feelings towards white Americans he previously abhored.  After his pilgrimage to Mecca he disavowed racism in all forms.

Today is Eidl Fitr, I hope and pray that we (may we be of Islam religion or not) would treat each other with respect.  That it is not the color of the skin or type of race or religion that we belong to but what matters is that we live a life in harmony with everyone.  A peaceful Eid’l Fitr to everyone.

Hapi Eid sa lahat…

Nengkoy Blog is 3 Years Old

3My brain has been leaking for three long years, the result of which is this blog.  Only now that I have come to my senses that I am actually a blogger.

Since this blog has been running for 3 years, I decided to transfer its host from Friendster to a more sophisticated blog provider, WordPress.  Nevertheless, Friendster blog are still powered by WordPress which made it easier for me to transfer all my previous post entries.

Happy Anniversary to Nengkoy Blog!

Happy SAD!

Valentines in over!  Gone is the day of sophisticated form of torture designed to mock my singlehood.  Demented romantic fixation moments are over!  Gone is the day of happy loving couples in front of me attempting to swallow each other by mere smooching.

Finally, it’s February 15 and it’s the annual Singles Awareness Day (SAD).  I am so happy its SAD and I survived and gone over Valentines Day without a respirator, a fractured bone or any bout of insanity.

Now that its SAD let me remind all those who are romantically attached that… SINGLE IS SEXY!

Tumabi-tabi kayo dyan! Araw namin ngayon!
