Remembering.  That is one task I can’t seem to recall on when was the last time I celebrate what should be celebrated today.  But for this year, let me hug, assent and celebrate Valentines.  Actually, the mere fact that I am posting something on Valentines is already a rare and huge celebration on my part.  Typing the letters V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E-S actually took some toll on me.  I needed few minutes of some peaceful rest after typing it.

Excited.  But putting myself on some positive note, this is basically my general feeling for the past weeks.  It is because I feel that very soon the one who would sweep me away from my being solo, by myself and alone would finally arrive.  I’m excited to meet the person whom I would simply sit down with enjoying freshly brewed coffee mornings after mornings.

Congratulations.  This would be my heartfelt greetings to all those who were blessed and successful in finding their significant other.  I hope your Valentines this year would be a celebration that would be remembered for a long period of time.  I also hope that your partner would not leave as swiftly as how he/she arrived.

And since I profess of celebrating Valentines today, here’s an old yet emotive song dedicated to those whose feelings were swept away by their significant other.  I’m hoping to feel and sing the same… soon…

O ayan ha.  ‘Di ako ampalaya!

A Song For The Person At The Final Gate Of The Last Mushroom Kingdom

It’s eight in the evening on a Thursday.  I am (again) alone with no intentions of doing anything except think of the last couple of decades.  Yeah, in the last couple of decades, I did not seem to have encountered the right timing for me to meet my supposed correct and destined significant other.

It may have been a lifetime, but this will not discourage me from constantly praying and hoping that the right one, in God’s beautiful time will simply arrive. And yes I guess, when it comes to love — same as when buying ice cream — some actually prefer to wait in line even if they can get the same thing from another store without queuing.

But waiting and working on this for the last couple of years seem to become quite more of a difficult task.  Each time I got to meet someone, work on a possible connection and ends up with nothing was like playing Super Mario Brothers all over again.  I was like the Mario (of the Nintendo arcade game) jumping on top of Koopa Troopas, breaking bricks and climbing flag poles, crawling through sewages and kicking Goombas only to be told at the end gate of the Mushroom Kingdom that the person I am looking for is in another castle.

And yet, may I already be on the latest Super Mario Galaxy Deluxe version or not in the stage of my life, I will not stop playing.  I will never stop wishing, I will never cease finding and I will never tire hoping until I meet that partner who is meant for me at the ultimate and final gate of the Mushroom Kingdom.

And when I got to meet that person at the final gate of the last Mushroom Kingdom I will definitely gonna sing this song…

ken ay bi yor…

Two Glances and a Pinch

Two glances and a pinch is what made my day today.  These very simple acts are the movements I made that totally made my day different from the rest of the days that has passed.  I know that such is a silly thought for such an old soul like me.  But today I was feeling like I’m in my first few weeks of high school, shivering and shuddering because of an absurd chance of mingling with a person of infatuation.

The Christmas Season has passed, a new year is on a roll and last year’s events and highlights are now officially a memory.  But today is some kind of a different highlight.  I received two short glances from the person I have been thinking, wishing and praying for and that I got to give a light pinch to that person’s arm before I walked away.

Walking away, I felt the electric current in my right hand.  The lucky hand that pinched the arm of my object of infatuation.  And as I walked away, I felt my left hand being so jealous of my right hand.  And while I walk away, I can feel my lips curving into a happy shape known by all as ‘smile’.

While the electricity in my right hand starts to wane as I walk away, I wanted to let everyone near me to hear me shouting, “Hello, all of you!  It’s a beautiful day! A perfect day! A day of possibility!”love photo

image

A New Year is but a couple of hours away, I would like to wish myself and the rest of the world to further develop a pretty good amount of emotional and intellectual common sense.  And may the exclamation points that we will encounter in the coming year be all physically and psychologically enriching.  And lastly, may bliss and beauty be all over the planet!

From Nengkoy and I, Happy New Year!

Heypi Niyu Yir!

Merry Christmas 2015

The Holiday Season is the chance to remember what matters most.  And for the many families around the world, the Holidays are the joyous time, a time to reunite.

But for families who are apart because their loved ones need to attend to work and serve other people (nurses, hotel staff, restaurant crews, police force, security guards, etc.), this time of the year is especially hard.  Christmas time also serves as a reminder that affected families too of these hardworking people have to sacrifice.  To all the men and women who needs to work and be on duty on this joyous time, thank you.

Please know that you have my highest respect and gratitude for sacrificing and be away from your families this Holiday Season.  To you and your families, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.  May we all experience metric tons of peace and happiness this Christmas!

The Journey On Madonna Concert Ticket

I grew up listening to her music.  I grew up liking her ever changing image.  I grew up idolizing this woman who ignited an entire generation to express themselves.

Seeing a Madonna Concert is the only thing that is lacking of my being a die-hard fan.  Click this LINK for you to know how big a fan I am of Madonna: https://neillangit.com/2008/08/17/a-fan-of-a-golden-girl/

To fulfil my self-imposed requirement, I seriously considered travelling to Tel Aviv, Israel in 2012 to watch the Sticky and Sweet World Tour.  I chose Tel Aviv because that seem to be the nearest country where I can watch that concert.  Also, being a Filipino I need not apply for a tourist visa in that country.  But due to budget constraints I obviously was not able to go.

Then just about two weeks ago, my super friend Jesse who’s based in Sydney messaged me and invited me to see the Rebel Heart show in Australia.  He sent me the link on how the purchase should go.  This is despite the fact that Madonna performing in Manila is already becoming a big buzz.   I was so close to buying the ticket!  But for some weird reason, obviously I did not.

Until two days after chatting with Aussie Jesse, the big news was announced that Madonna for the first time will perform in Manila.  I did not believe it still, until I personally checked the official Madonna website.  And when I saw for myself that Madonna is indeed coming, I was like feeling so moved!!!  I know I’m not religious, but I felt so moved, it made me wanna pray!!!

the only one in asia!!!

the only one in asia!!!

Then, 4 days prior to the official selling of tickets to public, I received a text message from Citibank informing me that I got the opportunity to buy Madonna tickets because of their pre-sale program. I of course did not let this chance go! I moved my ass and bought 2 ticket seats.

I need someone to accompany me during the concert so I bought 2 tickets.  One for my dear sister Gaying.  My sister during the event has been assigned to pinch my nose and slap me in the face to remind me that what I am about to see and experience is not a dream.

finally!

Now that I got myself her concert ticket, one of my life’s bucket list will finally become a realization.  See you there…

Wish Follow-up

One common yet unofficial belief of religious and unreligious Catholics is that they can make a wish every time they enter a Catholic Church for the first time.  Others, may they have a religion or none, would take the opportunity to make a wish every time they came across a wishing well.

I love churches and wishing wells, these spots gives me the feelings of positivity, optimism and upbeat emotional strength.  Both feels like they have strange and mysterious healing powers!

Almost all people, I guess, after making a wish in these places would either forget about it or let fate and providence be the arbiter if such longing will be granted or not.  No one I guess ever thought or dared of going back to the church or wishing well to follow up his or her wish.  Relaying a reminder for the granting of a yearning is not part of the tradition or the custom of making wishes.  This is definitely something rare and uncommon.

And since I am rare and uncommon, I did the rare and the uncommon.  I followed-up.

Last Thursday, after touring a very interesting meat processing plant in Malvar, Batangas, me and my colleagues decided to go for a side trip.  We went to the old heritage town of Taal, Batangas.  For a very brief exploration, we went to 2 old churches and one mystical wishing well in Taal.

We went to the St. Martin De Tours Basilica, the largest Catholic Church in Asia and at the Shrine of Our Lady of Caysasay, one of the few churches in the world that was given the special privilege by the Vatican for plenary indulgence.  To cap our short Taal trip, we went to the old spring-fed wells of Sta. Lucia, a miraculous wishing well.

Since I have been to all these three spots just a couple of weeks ago, this means, I would not have the opportunity to make a wish.  Thus, to make this trip a more fruitful one, I simply expressed a reminder for the granting of my wish.  The same request I made the first time I went there.

a day to wish! (at sta. lucia wishing wells)

a day to wish! (at sta. lucia wishing wells)

At the miraculous Sta. Lucia wishing well, people are obliged to return to this site when their wishes has already been granted.  Grantees return so as to offer white or violet-colored flowers and to pray their deepest thanks.  Since my wish has yet to be granted, I did not bring with me any flower but nevertheless say a short prayer of thanks for being well and alive.

Still at the miraculous Sta. Lucia wishing well, while dampening my face, my neck, my arms and my hair with the banal na tubig (sacred water) fetched from the well  I was literally uttering in a sweet gentle tone, “Follow-up lang po… follow-up lang po…”.

a day to follow-up...

a day to follow-up…

Everyone was laughing when they heard me say this.  Maybe it’s because it’s unusual to follow-up.  My colleagues knew that I was just there few days ago, that is why they were giggling when I was making a follow-up.

So, to make my wish become more potent, I called for reinforcements! I requested my colleagues’ that part of their wishes is that they wish that my wish be granted!

Siguro naman matutupad na… Palow-ap lang po…

Blissful Encounter with the Lady Named Caysasay and an Angel Named Mark Vincent

It has always been my belief that entering a house of prayer or a religious temple for the first time goes with a lot of perks.  I am with the faithful belief that you can ask for three wishes if it is your first time to enter a church.  This of course is aside from the opulent opportunity to pray for your loved ones, express your heartfelt gratitude, catch-up with God and in a way save your soul.

simple yet powerful!

mystifying

But my first time visit to the church of Our Lady of Caysasay in Barangay Labac, Taal has more than what I expected.   I only knew through a brochure write-up of the hotel were we stayed in Taal that pilgrims and visitors of this church as decreed by Vatican may actually receive the rare and priceless plenary indulgence.  This means, if you visit and pray at Caysasay Shrine all your sins, wickedness and impiety will be washed away.  Upon knowing this, and since my wickedness is already up to the brim, I made sure that I and my friends must go there.

Aside from washing away all my evilness, I also got to meet one remarkable kid in Taal.  His name is Mark Vincent.  I actually met him right inside the church.  After saying a solemn prayer, this kid approached me and asked if I wanted to personally hold the image of Our Lady of Caysasay.  I of course agreed.  He then told me to follow him outside, led me to the back of the church and asked me to go up the stairs which leads me to the back of the high altar.

When I reached the top floor, the main backdoor of the church was locked.  Mark Vincent noticed that I could not get in so he hurried downstairs and told the church’s personnel to open the door for me and my friends.  This is where the amazing and rare opportunity of touching the miraculous image, her vestment and even the hair of Our Lady of Caysasay happened.  This beautiful experience was indeed sublime and mystifying.

When I told Mark Vincent that he is supposed to be in school that Wednesday morning, he told us that his teacher ordered them to report halfday after lunch because it’s the feast day of St John the Baptist.  In Batangas province, part of its local tradition is to splash water to people passing by the streets from morning ‘til noontime during San Juan day.  The teacher then, as I supposed, must not want her students reporting at school in the morning all drenched wet.

I was expecting Marc Vincent to ask money from us upon making sure we experience what we experienced.  Usual Pinoy cunning and scheming kids would charge or ask tourists for money for the service they believe they’ve rendered.  But what is so remarkable about this kid is that he never asked anything from us.  He simply wanted us to have a deeper encounter with the Lady of Caysasay.  This is the point when I surmised that Mark Vincent, the genteel and well-mannered kid, must be some angel sent by heaven.  (I will write further about my encounter with this remarkable kid in the days to come…)

Japanese Broadway Musical: My New Yearning

This blog is a living proof that I absolutely without any doubt love anything about Japan.  From its food, to its beautiful weather, to its magnificent sites, up to its exquisite culture and gentle people.

This blog also is a testament to the startling fact that I love Broadway musicals.  From its ingenious production designs, to its mind blowing choreographies, to its incredible story plots up to marvellous musical tunes and talents.

Amazingly, the recent Youtube video which I stumbled upon is a surprising mix of both.  This video gives me a reason to again visit Japan and see their unique version and remarkable rendition of western musicals.

wow!

wow!

What is so delightful in watching this video is that I don’t have to have the lyrics translated in a language that I understand.  I already know the story, the uttered lines as well as the music.  The only thing that I got to do is to witness the stunning visuals, hear the pleasing musical tunes and savour the delightful experience.

This is so beautiful…

Now I wonder how my favourite nemesis Ursula is interpreted by this Japanese musical company.
