Breathtaking Views from Harukas 300

My present Osaka visit confirmed further that it is my most favorite city on the planet.  All the while, I thought I have been to all its best places to go to.  But I was at awe when I and my family visited the top of Abeno Harukas, the tallest building in Japan.  Abeno Harukas is the newest landmark in this part of Nippon country for it just opened in March/April of 2014.

The top three atrium cum observatory floors of the building is called Harukas 300 which offers the sweeping view of the whole Osaka metropolis.  The lower floors houses a five star hotel, a magnificent museum, high-end offices and a humongous shopping mall.

The view at Harukas 300 floors are so wonderful, it is hard to find words to fully describe it. The whole panoramic sight will make your heart beat faster and makes you realize how huge Osaka is and how spectacular Japanese architectural advancement is.

It is surprising to note that the observation deck vicinity was actually very relaxing considering that it is so modern and top of the class.  The coffee shop at the 58th floor was a good add-on facility for people who would like to unwind and let time pass by while enjoying a spectacular view of the city.

Harukas 300 is indeed a new iconic landmark in cosmopolitan Osaka.

Ameysing!

Osaka has Pablo while Snaffle’s is in Hokkaido

When me and my family visits Japan (which fortunately has been a regular occurrence in the last couple of years) not having the Osaka-originated Pablo Cheese Tart seem like a mortal sin.  Thus, during our present visit we again lined up to buy and enjoy this amazing dessert.  Not only did we have the medium soft version of this enslaving cheese tart, we also had the newest version which has fresh orange on top.

yummy!

But since the highlight of our present Japan adventure is to experience the Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido, we were fortunate enough to come across Hokkaido’s best version and equally popular cheesecake.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the fascinating palatal experience brought about by Snaffle’s Cheese Cake from Hakodate, Hokkaido.  The soft creamy texture is simply perfect.  This heaven-sent dessert brings a different penchant to your sweet, smooth and cheesy impression.  The savory flavor brings a unique invigorating assault on the taste buds.  Its addictive character is equally impressive to that of Osaka’s Pablo.

Snaffles was a big hit with my family.  Everyone loved it!  Unfortunately, Snaffle’s as we found out is not yet available in Osaka while Pablo is nowhere to be found in Hokkaido.  I hope I would be the one benefiting from these delicious gastronomic highlights by having these exceptional desserts available in the Philippines.  I know Pablo will soon be available in Manila (by the 3rd quarter of 2015) and I’m wishing that Snaffle’s will follow suit.

Little Fuji by San Maruku

I know that the popular Japanese-originated St. Marc Café is a freshly minted icon in Manila.  But that did not dampen my yearning to try it in the country where it all started.  I and my family had it at a branch within the Namba area in Osaka.

People go to St. Marc Café because of their signature and sought after Choco Cro (short for chocolate-filled croissant).  But for me, I would return to St Marc (pronounced as San Maruku) because of their Little Fuji.

Little Fuji which I guess the name was derived from Japan’s iconic Mt. Fuji is composed of warm buttery flaky Danish pastry with soft vanilla ice cream drizzled with addictively light caramel sauce.

As expected Japanese vanilla ice cream is so heavenly.  But what is so amazing about this dessert was the savory taste of the Danish pastry.  Japanese pastry chefs of St Marc Café would indeed give the Danish people a run for their money.  We were so impressed we bought the wicked Danish roll for takeout.

Little Fuji, though uncomplicated in its components, is foolishly delicious.  It is so good my soul was screaming “Oishii!”

The First Sub-Zero Escapade

Now that 2014 is now officially a memory, my first 2015 out of town adventure is appropriately significant for it is with no other than Nengkoy.  Along with a few members of our family, we decided to have a two-week holiday to our family’s favorite country (next to the Philippines, of course) Japan.

hokkaido adventure starts now!

This adventure will actually be our first sub-zero winter season adventure.  Being inhabitants of a tropical country with abundant vitamin D, we actually do not know what to expect.  What we know is that this adventure would be a lot of cold and freezing exploits.

The mere thought of mountains of snow already makes me feel so icy!  Hokkaido, here we come!

Mary Jean Lastimosa, Philippines!

During the preliminary round of the Miss Universe pageant, MJ Lastimosa delivered very well.  She was a total stand out in both gown and swimsuit rounds.  A lot of fashion and beauty pageant experts say that MJ looks like she is the one to beat.

But what I was particularly impressed about MJ was the way she introduced herself.  She was unlike the other candidates who were looking too nervous or were embarrassingly screaming on the top of their lungs.  MJ was so graceful and sophisticated yet she sounded like she was in high spirits and evidently having so much fun.

Her introduction exudes confidence and was uniquely high class! Call it a new form or a fresh technique, MJ’s flair in her introduction was truly something for the books. I’m pretty sure future beauty pageant introductions will be based or patterned towards this elegant style!

May pitik sa dulo! Hahaha!

Shifting the Cheering Gear from Pope of the Universe to the Queen of the Universe

Now that the Pope is back in his quarters, still feeling the grand euphoria he felt when he was here in the Philippines, it is time for the Filipino people to cheer again.  This time it’s for Mary Jean Lastimosa, the Philippines’ candidate to the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.

WOW! (photos taken from mj lastimosa fb page)

From the clips that I have seen, MJ Lastimosa no doubt is the embodiment of poise, grace, beauty and fun.  Her communication skills are formidable.  When she speaks, one can’t help but listen.  Her positive aura is like sunshine and delight to all those people around her.  I particularly love her bubbly spirit.  Her megawatt smile, her seductively graceful catwalk and knockout sexy body screams “queen”!

Come pageant day, all Filipinos worldwide will surely be glued on the television and will surely cheer for her.  MJ Lastimosa definitely deserves to bring home the crown!

The Sheer Epic-ness of Jeremy Jordan

This has been one entertaining YouTube video that I have been watching every night for multiple times for the past five days. I instantly became a big fan after watching this.  It’s funny, it’s impressive, it’s adorable and it’s obsessing!

Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a big round of applause to the sheer epic-ness of Mr. Jeremy Jordan!

Rebooted by Pope Francis

A miracle happened in Luneta hours before the Holy Mass was about to be officiated by Pope Francis.  It was a miracle that involved me and my elder sister.  Both of us did not whine nor whimper about going to and from the people-infested Luneta right in the middle of the storm.  In fact, we both actually enjoyed it!

My relatives know that in case I am subjected to any discomfort, I whine and grumble to the highest level.  While my elder sister is the most cautious and the least adventurous in the family.  So if we are together, nothing really happens and everything seem so dull.

thank you santo padre...

thank you santo padre…

But not today.  I would like to claim that I and my sister were rebooted and were recharged by the visit of Pope Francis in Manila.  At exactly 12 noon, I, my sister and her son Luis converged at Vito Cruz.  In our respective jackets and rain coats, we walked our way heading to Luneta to attend a once in a lifetime Holy Mass in Manila by Pope Francis.  Both of us surprisingly did not complain nor felt tired nor whine about the long walk, the drenched feeling, the muddy puddles, the dizzying swarms of people as well as the cold and heavy downpour of typhoon thrashing above us.

And when we were heading back, we were actually caught in a throng of people crammed and tightly squeezed together.  People were so compact, it was like a wave of people.  You cannot just standstill because the wave of people would thrust you in varying directions.

I actually got nervous for my sister and my nephew for it really takes a lot of energy to survive the shoving force of such surfs of moving people.  The three of us got separated along the way after about 25 meters.  But when the crowd got a bit loose and no longer too crammed together, I found a concrete planter box and stood up to look for them.

Luckily, in about five minutes my sister saw me high on the planter box and headed towards me and then suddenly my nephew appeared smiling walking towards us.  My sister told me that she was pressed towards a group of old ladies while my nephew was prodded towards a group of young foreigners also attending the Pope’s pastoral visit in Manila.

At an ordinary occasion, I would have wailed, whined and complained.  While my sister could have simply passed out.  But we kept our composure and actually smiled and congratulated ourselves for surviving such a deadly throng of people.  We headed back home happy and feeling accomplished.

Now that I am writing this, only now that I realized that I would definitely will walk that far or get drenched that drenched or brave a smashing typhoon or subject myself to be crushed by hordes of people if it is in the honor of the Holy Vicar of Christ.

This experience is definitely nothing but a miracle.

Maganda din pala kapag iniiwan ang kaartehan sa bahay.

I Think I Like Pope Francis

Because of a couple of hot-button issues that I don’t agree with the Catholic Church, I consider myself a “Catholic in bad standing”.  Though born a Catholic, I don’t even have a friend or even an acquaintance who’s either a Catholic priest or a nun.  Nevertheless, I participated in welcoming with huge open arms His Holiness, Pope Francis to my country, the Philippines.

one cool pope...

one cool pope…

I think I like Pope Francis.  I like him because he has an effective way of changing the public’s perception about Catholicism.  His tone is totally different as compared to a traditional, strict and highly conservative Catholic.

I think like him because he is not out in the world to evangelize the non-Catholics.  He is out of Vatican and visits parts of the world to re-evangelize the Catholics (like me) to reconsider the Catholic virtues of compassion, love and service to fellow human beings.

I think I like him because he is not the usual judgmental type of a Catholic.  He seem to be the type who would just let you be what you be as long as you mean no harm and it is in pursuit of love or of helping the poor.

I like him because he concedes to the idea that God shall be your judge at the end of the day and not those people with ostentatious robes running the Roman Catholic Church.

Lastly, I think I like Pope Francis because he seem to possess the power to warm hearts.  Through the feeling of warm hearts, this opens up people’s appreciation towards the beauty of Catholicism, the strength of Christianity and the love of Jesus Christ.

After seeing Pope Francis in person, I know what the phenomenon dubbed as the “Pope Francis Effect”.  Seeing him was like one of the coolest things.  It seem like an out of body experience!

Treadmill, Mayonnaise, The Speed of Sexor Reprise and Olly Murs

57 cal

57 cal

Though the commencement of my having to go on a diet will still be on Monday (January 5), my return on going to the gym has already started last January 2.  And according to the treadmill digital meter my thirty minutes of alternate brisk-walking, jogging and speed-burst running lose me an amazing 214 calories.

Though 214 calories is only equivalent to four tablespoons of mayonnaise, I nevertheless was glad to have started the year in a somewhat correct corporeal fitness disposition.

Good thing I have with me the songs of Olly Murs and Tiga in my mobile music hub.  Their upbeat tracks made me so immersed with my exercising…

.

From among the four I identified in the title of this post, mayonnaise seem the only negative.  Unfortunately, it’s the cheapest and easily available among the four.
